Description and notes:
In the years immediately following the apocalypse, the Waupun Correctional Institute saw a bit of a transformation. The surviving guards and inmates realized they would need to work together to find some way to survive. It wasn't easy; lingering mistrust between the two factions led to several brawls and even a stabbing death of a former inmate. However, the kinks were eventually worked out and the inhabitants of the prison prioritized living for the future instead of dwelling on the past.

Over the intervening years, the rough alliance at the former prison transformed into a tight-knit group of craftsmen, first by necessity and then by tradition. What began as inmates and guard banding together to survive grew into the establishment of Waupun Refurbishments, a firm specializing in the scavenge and repair of old-world goods. WR deals with everything from old cars and trucks, to weapons, to farming equipment and household goods. The good they find and repair are then sold to travelers passing through town from a small retail outlet just outside the prison/factory.

As for the building itself, the former Waupun Correctional Institute is a very large complex with many rooms, corridors, and common areas. The grounds used to be surrounded by a number of fences, all of which have been removed by the employees as a way to officially break with the past. The security of the building proper still stays in place; however, it is used now to keep bandits and raiders out, rather than keeping the employees in. Inside, many of the cells have been converted into specialized work spaces for each member of the company.

A small building sits across the street from the WR plant, with a large sign stating "Refurbished Goods". This building is a single-story brick building with glass windows in front covered with old sections of chain-link fence from the prison. Inside is a showcase for smaller goods, and the yard out back serves as a showroom for larger items for sale.

Many of the workers here and children and grandchildren of the former inmates and guards, and as such have little to no memory of the way things were before the apocalypse.
